Life Area: Personal Topic: Emotional Intelligence<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jack Canfield once said,\u00a0\u201cEverything you want is on the other side of fear.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0And he\u2019s right. But I\u2019m going to take it one step further.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pain, discomfort, shock, boredom, impostor syndrome, awkwardness, fear, being wrong, failing, ignorance, looking stupid: your avoidance of these feelings<\/strong><\/em> is what is stopping us from a life beyond our wildest imagination.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n These are\u00a0the\u00a0feelings that accompany a life of success. And yet, these are the very feelings we relentlessly\u00a0avoid!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Interesting how that works, right?<\/strong><\/p>\n Wealth, optimal health, incredible relationships, deep spiritual maturity are all\u00a0available to us. And, the primary obstacle in our way is\u00a0how we feel\u00a0about what we need to\u00a0do\u00a0to have these things.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Most people aren\u2019t willing to feel difficult emotions on a regular basis. However, if you\u2019re willing to\u00a0disregard how you feel in the moment, you\u2019ll have access to a world of opportunity unavailable to 99% of the population.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n When we feel the fear and do it anyway, we get the satisfaction of living life on our terms. Instead of being a hostage to our emotions, we get to experience them more deeply.<\/p>\n Ironically, once we break past the emotional blocks and just act, it\u2019s never as bad as we think it will be.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Napoleon Hill said,\u00a0\u201cWhen your desires are strong enough, you will appear to possess superhuman powers to achieve.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0Similarly, Tim Grover has said,\u00a0\u201cWhen you crave the end result, the hard work becomes irrelevant.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Put most simply: when your\u00a0\u201cwhy\u201d\u00a0is strong enough, you\u2019ll be willing to do any\u00a0\u201chow\u201d. The clearer and bigger the why, the bolder the how. Hence, if you 10x your why, you\u2019ll have insights about how to do things far more effectively than the norm. As Supercoach Dan Sullivan has said,\u00a0\u201cWhen 10X is your measuring stick, you immediately see how you can bypass what everyone else is doing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n If your dreams are big enough, you\u2019ll have to\u00a0do\u00a0different things than you\u2019ve been doing. Not all \u201chows\u201d are created equal. You\u2019ll have to do things you don\u2019t\u00a0feel in the moment\u00a0like doing. You\u2019ll resist the actions you need to take.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Here are some opt-used quotes on the topic. Maybe you\u2019ve heard a few of these:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cIf you do what you\u2019ve always done, you\u2019ll get what you\u2019ve always got.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c What got you here, won\u2019t get you there.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you want bold results, you need bold actions.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you want it bad enough, your momentary feelings won\u2019t stop you.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c How you feel\u00a0right now\u00a0is irrelevant.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOf course it\u2019s out of your comfort zone. Of course it may not\u00a0feel good\u00a0in the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cA person\u2019s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Tim Ferris, author of The 4-Hour Work Week<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Do something right now you\u2019ve been procrastinating. Do something right now that shocks your emotional system. You\u2019ll quickly realize it wasn\u2019t so bad.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Then do it again, with increasing intention.<\/strong><\/p>\n This is the essence of 10x thinking. Certain \u201chows\u201d will get you 10x results. Most people won\u2019t go there. Are you willing to go there?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n How big is the emotional roller-coaster of life you\u2019re going to ride? Small rises and dips? Or huge rises, drops, spins, and twists? Life is meant to be lived, emotions are meant to be felt and experienced. We get to design the roller-coaster.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Do you want the result bad enough that you\u2019re willing to feel absurd, horrible, amazing, ridiculous, and stupid to get there? Or, would you prefer to feel safe and regretful? The choice is yours. But everything you want is available. And the more extreme the emotional shock you\u2019re willing to walk through, the faster you\u2019ll get the results you\u2019re seeking.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Your most honest work will always be your best work. More than likely, it will also be your most successful work.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n There must come a point when we stop worrying ourselves over the opinions of others. Even the opinions of our heroes. We work and ideas must eventually come completely and unapologetically through us. Only when we fully trust ourselves and our ideas will we be able to create in a bold, honest, and beautiful manner. No matter how \u201csuccessful\u201d you become, trusting yourself never gets easier. In fact, it only gets harder with more external noise and pressure. But you will never be happy with yourself or satisfied with your work if you don\u2019t do what you truly felt inspired to do.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Your most honest work will always be your best work.
